Newton Crosby (Guttenberg) is a shy, sheltered computer genius who has designed the world’s most advanced robots. The military has armed them with lasers to create perfect mobile weapons, but everything changes when a bolt of lightning zaps the robot and brings it to life. Escaping from its home at Nova Robotics, the “living” robot encounters Stephanie Speck (Sheedy), a strong-willed young woman with a soft spot for all living things. She and “Number Five” form a loving friendship. But they have to keep outsmarting Crosby, who wants to repair his “malfunctioning” machine. Nova’s trigger-happy security chief is also determined to get the robot. A happy, heartwarming tale that will thrill old and young alike, SHORT CIRCUIT is a shining celebration of how wonderful it is just to be alive!
